The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is a government department responsible for creating thriving, sustainable and vibrant communities that improve everyone’s quality of life. A key piece of legislation which the department was responsible for is the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for England.
This funding programme helped stimulate economic development and regeneration in the least prosperous regions of the European Union (EU). Investment is targeted to meet three objectives set down by the EU: Convergence, Regional Competitiveness and Employment and European Territorial Co-operation. Between 2000-2013, England has benefited from £3.4 billion of ERDF investment from the 2000-2006 programme, with a further £2.5 from the 2007-2013 programme.
Nimbus formally (EAS) worked from 2005-2013 where we were commissioned to design, build and support two major IT projects infrastructure; the Transactional ERDF and State Aid (TESA) System, which was used to support the 2000-2006 programme and the Management Control and Information System (MCIS) which was used to support the 2007-2013 programme.
We worked alongside the development teams we designed and built the underlying infrastructure for both TESA and MCIS. The TESA application was initially deployed within a LogicaCMG datacentre, which we later migrated to the DCLG’s private cloud datacentre. MCIS was deployed directly within the DCLG’s private cloud datacentre using CI/CD pipelines created using Visual Studio Team Services and VBScripts.
